Nutritional consultations and ongoing nutritional support are part of the eating disorder treatment we offer to our clients.
If you have been living with an eating disorder for many years, it is easy to lose touch with what ‘normal eating’ is; indeed, you may never have had a positive relationship with food.
It can feel scary to talk about food – especially if you have kept your eating habits secret for a long time. But we make sure these sessions are calm and non-judgemental, friendly and relaxed.
What does a Nutritional Consultation involve?
We will guide you through the basics of food as a form of self-care and offer you take-home materials such as simple guidelines or weekly meal plans, depending on your needs.
The main aim is to help you listen to your body and respond to its needs. So while you may use food plans, sometimes you will work on ‘unplanning’ your food.
This is a long-term process – you will learn how to nourish yourself and be well now and into your old age.
Is weight the main issue?
It is not all about how much you weigh (although of course this can be a factor) but about eating
- what you like
- what you need
- when you need to
We’ll help you to understand why you need to eat particular foods in a particular way at a particular time (rather than just obeying orders).
We’ll help you come to see that your body is your best guide. Our job is to help you feel okay about that.
