At The Recover Clinic we offer effective and long-term eating disorder treatment for those suffering with Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge Eating Disorder and Body Dysmorphic Disorder.
As a leader and visionary, Clinical Director Emmy Gilmour has spent years devising and developing a program which we use to treat clients in our clinics throughout the UK.
Our Home Recovery Program is a care model which you can put into action in your own home, or alongside our outpatient programs.
What is the Home Recovery Program?
The Home Recovery Program is made up of 5 different stages which you can download directly from our website.
Each stage is designed to tackle different elements of the illness and allows you to gradually break free from destructive thoughts and behaviours.

“About a month ago I downloaded The Recover Clinic’s Home Recovery Program and wanted to share my thoughts with anyone suffering with an eating disorder who was thinking of trying it.
“I have been struggling to recover from anorexia and bulimia for several years (age 15 till present age 22). I have seen numerous counsellors and spent years being referred from nutritionist, back to my GP, to a psychiatrist only to be referred back to a nutritionist again. I’ve known about The Recover Clinic but don’t live anywhere near one of their clinics and so couldn’t access their support. My family have pretty much given up on me ever getting well and I looked at this program as pretty much a last resort. I genuinely didn’t think it would make much difference and although it’s early days, I really feel as though there has been a shift.
“So far the program has allowed me to look at my recovery in a different way. It’s like having a really good therapist on tap, in my living room helping me cope with the day to day dramas that I face with my eating disorder. The videos are split into 5 stages which really helped me in knowing exactly what I was working on and meaning I could work on each section in my own time. In the video, Emmy says that I should go back to each section to make sure that I’m really ‘absorbing’ the messages and I’m trying to do that. Because of all of the therapy that I’ve had, I didn’t think id meet anyone that understood what I was dealing with but with this I feel like someone gets it without me having to go into all the detail with ANOTHER person who I never really felt was listening or cared anyway.
“I feel so much more confident and positive about my recovery and my life in general. I realise that there is a long road ahead of me but for the first time I think that there is hope.”

“Emmy Gilmour, The Clinical Director at The Recover Clinic approached me 4 months ago and asked me whether I would be prepared to take part in a trial that she was doing. She wanted me to test out the home recovery program to see if it would work and whether I could retain any sort of long term recovery from using it.
“I had contacted The Recover Clinic several times looking for help but never had the confidence to go and see anyone, Emmy said she thought that the home recovery program might be a less scary way for me to begin the recovery process and I decided that I had nothing to lose. I made sure that I watched the program all the way through each week and I began to see that it was having a real impact. The changes were subtle at first: I wasn’t feeling compelled to binge as much and when I did binge they were shorter binges and less violent.
“After the first month I’d gone from restricting and bingeing everyday to some meal structure and binges once per week. After 9 weeks the binges stopped altogether. I still focus on my meal structure and I’m very conscious of taking care of myself but I honestly feel that this has saved my life.”
Sophie – September 12, 2013:
“I have been anorexic and bulimic for the last 15 years. I have seen loads of therapists, nutritionists and psychiatrists and have never been able to find anything but short-lived breaks from my eating disorder.
“To be honest I tried the home recovery program as a last resort but I’m so glad I did. The program has taught me to use my controlling behaviours and my willpower in a positive way, I no longer allow my eating disorder to control my life.
“I’ve been working the program for the last 8 weeks and although I know I have a way to go, I can suddenly see light at the end of the tunnel, something I’ve never had before.”
Carla – September 12, 2013:
“I have been trying to get help for overeating for years. The home recovery program was brilliant for me because I was able to use it around work and I could keep going back to it if I felt that I needed a reminder for staying on course.
“It helped me to separate my well voice from my eating disorder voice and gave my the confidence to take back control of my life.
“I’m now 23 weeks free from any binge behaviours which is the first time since I was 15 years old…I’m now 38 years old!”
