“Remember always that you not only have the right to be an individual, you have an obligation to be one.” – Eleanor Roosevelt
Humans all thrive on receiving praise and compliments from the people around them. Losing weight is a physical change to our bodies which means that more people are likely to notice this change in us and therefore compliment us. This leads to us believing that our new diet must be working. However, it is not all about the changes you make to your physical self. Your mental self is just as important, if not more important, to ensure you can function properly. Self love is one of the most important practices to make sure that we are positive about ourselves. There is nothing more essential in life than being able to say that you love the body and skin you are in. If only people could see what a difference having self love can make to how you feel about yourself. Maybe if this was realised, there would be less emphasis on the physical changes in our body and more on the mental states.
We are all very influenced by the people around us. If we see that everyone else is jumping onto a new diet trend, then we will follow them. People like to follow the crowds as it gives us a sense of belonging. However, all of these diets and regimes can lead to us losing our individual identities. We can become ‘one of a crowd’ rather than an individual person. It is important for us to remember to keep our identities. Our mental health is far more important than following a trend or impressing others with the weight that we may or may not have lost. Remember that self love is the best love!
